Ian Kayser is a local artist, teacher, and traveling musician. Having been raised around all forms of art such as painting, literature, and music, he founded “Musicolor Studios” to provide an environment where the focus is on creativity. Ian also teaches for School of Rock where he helps students share the joys of music within a band. Inspired by Ruggero Piano, Ian has also taken up the craft of piano tuning and regulation, studying the art with fellow Piano Technicians Guild members for the past two years. He also is a sound technician at the Holly Springs Cultural Center where he gets to meet and run sound for all sorts of musical acts, many of which have become good friends. Ian also plays at a variety of venues with a variety of bands. One day it’s 70’s hits in Wilmington, the next is indie rock at Carrboro Music Festival, or maybe jazz jams at the Niche Wine Lounge, all to return Sunday morning for worship where the purpose of music is most true. For this event, Ian will be showcasing a year-long study highlighting the music of his favorite classical composer – Claude Debussy. The project included learning some of his more prominent pieces, annotating a biography (“Painter in Sound” by Stephan Walsh), writing an essay titled “Composing with Colors”, and composing a piece inspired by the ideas he’s learned from this undertaking. He hopes you will enjoy the performance just as much as he has enjoyed learning about this very important artist and his influence on the world of music!
