About the UNC-Chapel Hill piano program

The UNC–Chapel Hill piano program cultivates creativity while preparing students to become innovative, high-caliber musicians. UNC pianists have earned top prizes in state and national competitions and have gone on to receive scholarships and assistantships at leading universities and conservatories across the country. Recent accomplishments include First Prize at the national finals of the MTNA Stecher and Horowitz Two Piano Competition. Students have performed at major venues and on prominent concert series, including Carolina Performing Arts and the Berlin Konzerthaus in Germany. In addition, the UNC piano program hosts guest artist recitals and masterclasses with world-renowned pianists such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Emanuel Ax, Leon Fleisher, Robert McDonald, Peter Serkin, and André Watts, among many others.

Founded in June, 2003, the Fourth Friday Concert Series, formerly know as the 4th Friday Mix, stands as one of our area’s longest-running concert series. We remain committed to providing free and inclusive concerts that welcome musicians with a passion for sharing their talents. All attendees, including children capable of listening attentively, are warmly welcomed. Fourth Friday Concerts typically feature 2-4 performers or performance groups, although special occasions may showcase a single performer or group for the entire concert.

Customer Reviews

We bought a piano from Ruggero a few months ago and could not be more pleased with our experience. We first visited Ruggero in the spring to look at piano options and met with Chris. He was great about showing us the different options within our budget. We took a few months to think about our options and Chris was ready to help us when we were ready to buy in late summer. He walked me through their inventory at the time and we found a piano that has been perfect for my family. He was never pushy about our budget and was great about giving us the time we needed to make a decision. I have spent many hours refreshing my piano playing and my kids have loved playing it as well. Thank you Ruggero! We love our piano! - Samantha Meese
